Reflection: Academic Writing

I found writing as an interesting activity to do after learning everything in the academic writing unit. Writing, for me, is an accurate way to express my feelings entirely, and this is surprising for me, since I never found writing as a fun activity to do before. Through writing, I am able to improve my vocabulary skills, because it forces me to search for the meanings of unknown words. This is what is challenging for me. But I had fun on writing.

I learned a lot of things after doing this assessment. First of all, about the topic I chose for this assessment. I chose Facebook as the topic. I now know that Facebook is really huge and popular worldwide because of some reasons. The reasons include its features, layout, and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg whose personalities are nice and well-educated. And now I know that Facebook has ever been involved in several conflicts such as in Syria, Facebook was once banned because of some political reasons. Secondly, about academic writing. After working on this assessment, I know what thesis means. And I know what types or forms are there in academic writing, for examples, research, reaction, and compare and contrast. This gives me the ease to write more in the future, because now I know what are the structures like and what each form displays/says.

I am most proud of the persuasive piece. I chose visual form to create this piece. I created a newsletter for this piece. I decided to create an one-page newsletter about Facebook. I found that creating newsletters was a fun thing to do, especially when choosing the words, formatting the layout, etc. But it was also challenging at the same time. The words that were about to be used had to be enhancing in some ways, so the audience would be attracted to read furthermore. I am proud of my newsletter since it provides them all.

I can improve my writings in the future by being careful with grammar. Grammars are important and they are valuable and quite prioritized in academic writings, so I need to revise my grammar once again after writing any piece, so good marks would be achieved. Beside grammar, I need to be careful at the structures as well. I need to organize the topic sentences clearly in paragraphs so that they look clear and readable, which would create an impression for the audience.

My failures include structuring the paragraphs and topic sentences. I did not do very well in structuring and organizing the topic sentences into well-structured paragraphs, which has created a confusion for the audience. My successes include the word choice I used on the essays which has made the essays look great and readable. The newsletter I created for the visual text was a success as well. The word choices were impressive and as an addition, I loved its layout and colors.

So, the conclusion is, working on this assessment was complicated yet useful. I learned many things as well. The forms of academic writings are one of the examples. Beside that, I need to improve some faults as well. For examples, grammars and structures. Though working on this assessment needed ate most of my leisure time, it was worthy because it has contributed much efforts to improve my writing skills, which are useful for my future in universities or colleges.
